Pastor - Rev. John D. Standridge
Rev. John Standridge is a native Texan, who, until a three years ago had been gone for a while. Born in Houston, he lived in Boerne, TX until the age of 12 when his family moved to San Francisco where he lost his accent and lived out the rest of his teenage years.
He attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA where he received his bachelor's degree. It was there that he met the lovely Kit Colwell, who, after much pursuit would eventually become his wife. After a year of marital bliss in Atlanta, John and Kit moved North - way North - where John began studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, MA, eventually earning his M.Div.
It was there that John and Kit first fell in love with church planting as they plugged in to a fledgling church in Cambridge's Central Square called Christ the King.
Over the years, John worked as the Director of Admissions at Gordon-Conwell, while serving that church variously as a deacon and then as an elder. In 2006, he was called to serve full-time as an Associate Pastor. More than anything, it was that church community that kept the Standridge's and their four children - Walter, Clayton, Theo and Lucy - in the Boston area for sixteen years.
In late 2011, John and Kit began to feel the Lord moving to pray about how He might have them serve in the next phase of ministry. After much prayer, discernment and counsel, they decided to pursue church planting and that call was affirmed by the denominational assessment center. Initially, the thought was that they would stay in the Northeast, but the Lord had other, better plans. After finally getting to a place of desperation in their prayers where they actually became open to going anywhere, John happened to head back to Fredericksburg, Texas for a family wedding.
Waking up the morning after the reception in San Antonio on New Year's Day, John did a quick web search to find the closest PCA church where he could worship before heading to the airport. That bit of providence resulted in a conversation with the chairman of the missions committee in the South Texas Presbytery, who wondered openly whether or not John might consider coming to Kerrville, TX to plant a church. There were more conversations, lots of prayer, a trip to Kerrville...and one thing led to another, and John and Kit had their next assignment.
Their family arrived in Kerrville in August 2012, and are enjoying a new life in a new place, experiencing the famous Texas hospitality, and excited about what the Lord has in store. In their spare time, the family is enjoying finding the local swimming holes, enjoying some amazing BBQ, experiencing Friday night Tivy football games, finding out what it's like to not live in an apartment, being allowed to own pets, and getting to know some really great neighbors.
